Fan Engagement Specialist

The Role

The Communications Division oversees the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy's (SC) and Host
Country’s (HC) communications activity, including but not limited to: strategy development and
implementation; media engagement; public relations; internal and stakeholder communications; as well as the delivery of various community and fan engagement programmes that are planned for and implemented by the SC’s Community Engagement Team.

The Fan Engagement Team is a cross‐functional unit that manages interaction with fans and football influencers from around the world to ascertain insight and data through a program of engagement. The
findings are integrated into the planning and operational delivery of the FIFA World Cup Qatar™ and the
events leading up to it, in order to personalize the experience for attendees. The series of engagement is
premised on identifying and curating unique relationships with fans and influencers and bringing forth‐
distinctive promotional opportunities using football, and football events as a core incentive for the collection of data and the promotion of the tournament on their platforms.

This role will focus on overseeing relationships with fans and football stakeholders domestically and
internationally, ensuring an exchange of knowledge, insight, experiences and content that raises awareness and builds excitement ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar™.

Job Description

Strategic planning   

  • Working alongside the SC to deliver a Fan engagement strategy that will build, promote and grow the culture of football fandom in Qatar and create connections around the world with a network of fan leaders that will excite fans about Qatar and inspire them to attend the FIFA World Cup 2022™.    

  • The approach will form the guiding priorities for fan recruitment,  research and insights, digital content, and market-specific and international activations to boost fan engagement prior to and during the tournament.   

  • Develop an action plan related to each identified area of work under the strategy  

  • Create an incentive scheme to engage fans in a sustained programme of engagement  (without payment) by showcasing their content on SC channels, profiling them as individuals in the media, fly them to SC activations in Qatar and internationally. 

  • Develop and execute campaigns engaging the SC Legacy Ambassadors to broaden the  appeal of content shared with fans and consider how to embed fans in Ambassador driven  campaigns


  • Fan insight will be required to test, review, feedback, poll and provide guidance on an array of operations within the SC, Host Country and domestic stakeholders. The role is required to oversee the process of ascertaining insight from fans within the database, football associations and community organizations in Qatar and delivering the most creative methodology to gain the required information. Including but not limited to:

  • Focus groups

  • Polls

  • Vox pops

  • Surveys

  • Video interviews

  • Scheduling and planning all research requirements



  • Experience of running fan engagement campaigns

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels and, when necessary, present

  • Highly numerate with good experience of using spreadsheets to understand and manipulate data

  • Good editorial judgment, in terms of knowing what digital content is good and why specifically social media content by fans

  • Organised and an ability to meet fixed deadlines

  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills


  • A passion for football

Experience in content creation and management

  • Experience of social media and a perspective on the social and media impacts of all leading western platforms

  • Experience using analytics platforms (Google, Facebook, Twitter)

  • Understanding of social media and its uses, with an appreciation of marketing, audience segmentation, profiling and content targeting

  • Basic Photoshop or video editing skills

Salary:  Commensurate based on experience

Holiday:  20 days (increasing by one day per year of service, to maximum 25 days)
