China’s 11/11 Was a Historical Day

We’ll save you some time and recap this year’s 11/11 shopping extravaganza. Data was extraordinary and numbers showed China not only wins in spending power but dominates in speed.

  1. Single’s Day gross merchandise value (GMV) equaled 168.2 billion RMB

  2. Growth rate of 39% compared to 2016, and more than 3000% growth compared to the 2009 (inaugural event)

  3. At midnight, GMV reached 100 million RMB in 11 seconds; GMV reached 1 billion RMB in 28 seconds; GMV reached 10 billion RMB in 3 minutes and 1 second

  4. Mobile end purchases accounted for up to 90% of all sales

  5. Total packages delivered reached 812 million, covering 220 countries and regions

  6. At 4:00 pm on Nov. 11th, 340 cities received products purchased on the same day

  7. By the end of Nov. 11th, more than 366 million packages were sent out from the sellers

  8. The fastest same day delivery took 12 minutes from purchasing to receiving

  9. The first overseas purchased product arrived in 33 minutes

  10. The most expensive purchase order was a 17 million RMB limited edition speedboat from Aston Martin

  11. 65% were female shoppers

  12. The majority shoppers were under 25 years old

  13. Top provinces by spending power: Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai & Beijing
