Liverpool FC Announces Video Partnership with PPTV in China
Updated: Jun 7, 2019
China’s largest online video portal PPTV have partnered with Liverpool FC to create an exclusive Liverpool video channel. The deal completed by Mailman is the second media partnership in the past twelve months in the mainland, edging the ‘Reds’ ever closer to an army of fans across China.
We were proud to host two Liverpool ambassadors, Robbie Fowler (Liverpool legend) and Chief of Media, Matthew Baxter. The three-day road trip included several high level meetings with partners, media, press conference and a fan meet and greet.
Following our four year partnership, Mailman CEO Andrew Collins had this to say “I’m ecstatic to see the club really taking China seriously, this partnership with PPTV will allow the club to connect with millions of new fans and deliver more premium content to our existing fan base.”
The deal includes a number of exclusive video content of behind the scenes, on the pitch interviews, back stories and more – this offers PPTV unrivalled content to distribute pre-games to allure more viewers to it’s premier league viewing.
“One year ago we revealed our official website for supporters in China, which communicates with fans in their local language,” said Matthew Baxter, chief media officer at Liverpool FC.
“We are delighted with this new partnership with China’s leading TV service, as we continue to work towards becoming the number one destination for Liverpool fans in the country” he added.
Launched by Mailman, Liverpool were the first European football club to enter the online Chinese market in July 2011 with the launch of an official presence on the Sina Weibo platform.
The club has since launched three more official accounts in China – Tencent Weibo, Youku and Weixin (WeChat) – and is now followed by more than 2.5 million fans on Chinese social media.
“It is our honor to work closely with a club with such glorious history,” said Fan Zhijun, CEO of PPTV. “As the leading sports video site, PPTV runs club channels for four major domestic clubs, which gathers a large amount of supporters.”We hope that our cooperation will establish a platform to spread the passion of Liverpool FC among Chinese Kopites.”
