Updated: Jun 12, 2019

On July 23rd, Liverpool FC officially launched their Weishi account. Weishi, a vine-like app offered by the same company that created messaging monster WeChat, Tencent.

The pioneer of many digital initiatives in China, Liverpool FC once again is a trendsetter as the first football club on Weishi. As a result of their strong push into China, Liverpool FC has one of the largest and most engaged fan bases in China, and it shows: in less than 1 day, their Weishi account has racked up over 700 followers and 4000 views.

The club released 6 videos, including 2 from famous LFC fan and football commentator Zhan Jun in China and 1 from LFC’s new signing, Rickie Lambert, whose “Thank you to Chinese fans” immediately received over 1000 views alone. The other videos had other exclusive footage, including coverage of the LFC vs. Roma game in Boston’s Fenway Park.

To encourage fan engagement, the club is asking fans to post their own videos on Weishi singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” in an LFC shirt, tagging LFC, to win a signed shirt. The dynamic and easily shareable nature of Weishi make it an ideal platform for clubs to engage with fans in China, underlining the club’s commitment to growing in China. Check out some tips to make the most of this platform.
